I study how technology and innovation interact with and perhaps even change the macro and micro determinants of entrepreneurship in emerging economies.
Fun-fact
When it comes to arts and music, I love everything under the sun. I have taken classes in salsa, theatre, Bharatnatyam (Indian classical dance) and Indian classical vocals. My latest fascination is with the piano.

I study wellbeing at multiple levels of the organization, and how promoting wellbeing can enhance, as opposed to conflict, with organizational performance.
Fun-fact
I LOVE (but am not necessarily good at) biking, kayaking, running, and I have been *mostly* plant based for the past 1.5 years and loving it.

I study how insiders and newcomers can contribute to their organizations and their cultures from the bottom up—and how leaders and managers can support those efforts.
Fun-fact – I play tennis with a good friend who beat Roger Federer when they were both 17

Research interest
I am interested in non-market strategy, specifically how firms manage their relationships with and are affected by actors in their non-market environment such as political figures and social activists.

Brian Hathaway

Group – Entrepreneurship, Organizational Behavior (Micro or Macro)
Research interest
I study the interaction between (a) large-scale social change, (b) the stigmatization and destigmatization of identity groups, and (c) downstream effects on firm strategy and behavior. Current projects include a study of how Jewish business owners adapted to the emergence of the Nazi regime, as well as a study of the demise of the Negro Leagues after the racial integration of Major League Baseball.
Fun-fact
During my time in the program, my wife and I have welcomed four cats and two children into our family!

I study inter- and intra-group relations in two streams, one looking at topics related to diversity and inclusion in the workplace and the other related to collaboration and learning in teams and groups.
Fun-fact
I recently learned that according to my genetics, I only have a 2% chance of having blue eyes (neither of my parents does), yet, I have blue eyes!

I am currently pursuing two streams of research: 1) talent acquisition by early stage companies and 2) the impact of corporate governance choices on firm innovation.

I like to bike to campus from the suburbs when the weather is not too extreme (snow and road bikes do not mix well).

Research interest
I’m primarily interested in research on Corporate Strategy, Corporate Governance, and the intersection between the two. Currently, I’m working on projects on how activist investors influence their target’s growth strategies and how social movements and corporations jostle for influence at the SEC.
Fun-fact
I’m getting married and moving into a new house this year, proving that it is in fact possible to be a PhD student and have a decent balance 🙂
